Chaudhary Charan Singh was born on 23rd December 1902 in a Jat farmer family in the village of Noorpur in Ghaziabad district (then part of Meerut) of Uttar Pradesh. His father, Chaudhary Mir Singh, was a farmer who later moved to Bhidoora village.

Growing up in a farming household, Charan Singh understood the struggles of rural India from a very young age. Despite limited resources, he pursued education and obtained a law degree from Agra University in 1925.
